The Dudley Observatory at miSci is committed to lifelong learning and has created programming specifically designed for adults! Come explore the museum on a quiet afternoon, then join the Dudley Observatory for an exciting astronomy lesson presented by Dudley Observatory Outreach Astronomer, Dr. Valerie Rapson. 2017 Science Festival of the Capital Region

Get ready for the 5th annual Science Festival! A six-day celebration comprised of engaging events for all ages, the festival looks to stimulate curiosity and discovery in the Capital District community while showcasing the rich culture of STEAM in the region. The festival includes hands-on activities, demonstrations, workshops, simulations, stage shows, encounters with practicing scientists, and more. This year, visitors can design their own video games, encounter robots of all sizes, and play with live animals from wild birds to small reptiles. ALL included in miSci admission, the Science Festival is a can’t miss event for ALL ages.

Challenger Adventure

Join other museum visitors in this out-of-this-world experience! See what it's like to do experiments in space while working with other visitors to complete your mission. Please Note: Space is limited. Purchase tickets when you arrive at miSci. Space is unlimited, but Adventures are not! limit of 15 seats per mission.

Little Wonders of Science: Oscar and the Bird


Introduce children ages 3 to 5 to electricity with Oscar and the Bird by Geoff Waring followed by some hands-on activities.

Little Wonders of Science inspires curiosity through stories, play, and special hands-on activities specifically created for children ages 3-5. Held on the third Friday and Saturday morning of every month, the Little Wonders of Science program introduces new STEM topics monthly.

Come early for a special 10 am showing in miSci's planetarium of "One World, One Sky" (additional $5/ person), and leave with the materials to continue the study of science at home.

Night Sky Adventure: Buying a Telescope (Presented by the Dudley Observatory)

Thinking of buying a telescope for yourself or your family? Join the Dudley Observatory for an introduction to the different types of telescopes, then experiment with a variety of telescopes to see what’s right for you. Astronomers will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice. Come try before you buy!

 Night Sky Adventures are astronomy fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory, in conjunction with volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers group, present astronomy lessons, planetarium shows and night sky viewing (weather depending). Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. One or more telescopes will be provided for public use. Octagon Barn Star Party and Lecture: Explorations of Jupiter (Presented by the Dudley Observatory)

Presented by the Dudley Observatory at miSci

Join the Dudley Observatory and the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers for star-gazing and an astronomy lesson at the Knox Octagon Barn in Delanson, NY. 

This month's talk with feature Professor Ralf Schauer (SCCC) speaking on “Explorations of Jupiter”.

Octagon Barn Star Parties include 1-hour talks by local astronomy enthusiasts, followed by night sky observing if the weather is clear. Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. Telescopes will also be set up for public use. Great for older children and adults!

SenseAble Science

A sensory friendly science center experience for those with autism and other sensory needs. Presented by the Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region, Schenectady ARC, and miSci with additional funds from sponsors.

Volunteer Open House

Interested in giving back to your community? Become a volunteer at the Museum! Get started by attending an open house. Volunteers are needed to assist with exhibits, such as the Butterfly House, assist in the archives, assist with maintenance, run Planetarium shows, and more. Open houses are held the first Monday of each month at 4:30 pm. New volunteers are welcome to stay for the all-staff at 5:15.
